Background
Mal leads Maddocks Sydney Construction & Major Projects group. He acts for a variety of participants in the construction industry who are involved in major building, engineering and infrastructure projects. His clients include principals (both Government and private), contractors, major equipment suppliers and financiers. Working closely with his clients over the last 15 years has allowed Mal to develop an in-depth knowledge of the construction industry and his clients' businesses.
He is regularly engaged by clients to provide project planning and procurement advice, prepare or advise on tender and contract documentation and assist with contract administration and issues resolution for projects in the road, rail, water, airport, health, education, leisure, port and other sectors.
Mal was recommended as a Band 1 lawyer in the 2009 Chambers Global Australia directory - an international directory ranking law firms and lawyers through research from clients and lawyers. He was recognised as being 'very strong on the technical side, and he is also very commercial and pragmatic.' He also 'takes a long-term perspective on his client relationships, willing to spend his time on developing that relationship without billing.'

- Acting for the developer of the Citibank Centre (2 Park Street, Sydney) office tower project.
- Acting for the design, construct and finance contractor on the 240 St Georges Terrace, Perth office tower project.
- Acting for a retail property fund on the redevelopment of a number of shopping centres in Perth.
- Acting for a major Australian water company on numerous PPP, D&C and O&M projects.
