Background
John brings to Maddocks and the Sustainability & Climate Change Team an outstanding knowledge of policy at all levels of government in relation to climate change, water and environment. As well as his role as Deputy Premier of Victoria from 1999 to 2007, John held numerous senior Ministerial portfolios including Planning, Health, Water, Environment and Climate Change.
Prior to entering Parliament in 1992 John was a barrister specialising in planning and administrative law and a Mayor of South Melbourne. His consulting work focuses on sustainability and public interest issues.
John's focus is on further developing the firm's Sustainability & Climate Change practice, playing a key role in advising key clients, partners and staff of the firm.
Legal Expertise
- Providing policy advice in his specialty areas of climate change, water and sustainability
- Providing strategic and legal advice to clients in renewable energy, energy efficiency, greenhouse and energy reporting and in preparing for a potential carbon price
- Providing guidance to the firm on issues of sustainability and corporate social responsibility.
