Three months on: how is the Victorian Equal Opportunity Act 2010 shaping up?:Update November 2011
The Victorian Equal Opportunity Act 2010 commenced operation on 1 August 2011.
Not a lot has really changed compared with the Equal Opportunity Act 1995 (Vic), and some of the changes (such as the new exceptions regarding accommodation that is unsuitable for children, school dress standards and discrimination in employment in religious schools on the basis of certain attributes) are too new to have generated any guidance via VCAT decisions at this stage.
Much is said and written about the importance of anti-discrimination legislation, which is undoubted, and about genuine claims, of which there are many. But what about the substantial body of misconceived or vexatious claims?
