Our Executive Leadership team has the responsibility of building an environment for success at Maddocks.

David Newman: Chief Executive Officer & Partner

David leads Maddocks as our CEO. He was appointed to the role in 2020, after 18 years as a Partner and having led the Restructuring & Insolvency team for most of that period. David has combined a passion for the law and his clients with a drive to contribute to the greater goals of Maddocks.

In his 20 years at Maddocks he has held a range of leadership positions, including practice team leader, practice group head and several stints on the Maddocks Board. He has also made a significant contribution to the firm through his innovation strategy development and the design and relocation of our Melbourne offices. As CEO, his main focus now is building on the success of the firm through a focus on investing in and empowering our people to deliver outstanding client service and innovative ways of delivering those services.

David has been listed as a distinguished practitioner in the 2019 edition of Asia Law Leading Lawyers and has been recognised as a recommended insolvency lawyer in Best Lawyers Australia every year since 2010.

David is also a Pay Equity Ambassador for the Workplace Gender Equality Agency's national pay equity campaign.

Catherine Saliba: Chief Operating Officer

Catherine joined Maddocks in 2006 as Financial Controller. For 10 years, she was the Director of Finance before her remit expanded to oversee both finance and operations for the firm in 2016.

Catherine brings a suite of financial management, analysis and operations experience to Maddocks, and works closely with her team to keep the firm operating efficiently.

Brad Kay: Chief Information Officer

As CIO, Brad leads the information technology team and the innovation strategy at Maddocks. Brad joined the firm in 2017, bringing over 20 years of experience in leading technological and innovative change in businesses and organisations.

Brad’s previous roles include a CIO position at Pitcher Partners, an accounting and auditing firm, as well as a long history of leadership roles at the likes of KPMG and Spotless Group.

Deborah Stonley: Director, People & Culture

Deborah joined the Maddocks leadership team in 2018, following over 20 years of directing culture, retention and engagement strategies for another major Australian law firm. She has been recognised for her market-leading work in developing an organisational culture of inclusiveness and as a leader who adds value by providing progressive HR strategies.

Deborah’s strong track record in leading change management programs, developing and implementing remuneration strategies, talent management, succession planning and executive coaching make her a key strategic mind at Maddocks.

Marnie Reid: Director, Business Development

Marnie Reid has extensive experience leading business development, communications, and marketing teams in the legal sector. Marnie joined Maddocks in 2021 from a global law firm where she was the Head of Asia Pacific, Marketing and Business Development. Before that role, Marnie was the Head of Marketing and Business Development at an independent Australian law firm and the Head of Business Development for a top-tier Australian law firm for seven years.

Marnie has a track record of leading high performance teams, creating programs to deliver high-level client service and implementing change to better position business development, communications, and marketing teams to support the changing needs of clients.
