Our graduate program is designed to launch your career through a combination of comprehensive training and working directly with our partners and clients.

All of our graduates complete Practical Legal Training through the College of Law. In addition to this we have designed a comprehensive internal training program.

Our graduates complete rotations through the firm’s practice groups over a 12-month period. Graduates also meet with a People & Culture representative regularly to discuss any issues and receive feedback collected from the team.

Within the practice teams each graduate is assigned a senior lawyer as their coordinator who assists with workflow and acts as a mentor for the duration of the rotation. They are also assigned a lawyer as their buddy.

Graduates at Maddocks have the opportunity to work with a fair amount of autonomy on high-quality, complex matters, and have contact with clients where appropriate.

Training for graduates includes regular sessions, both internal and external, for all areas of practice. There is a comprehensive internal training program with monthly CLE sessions run by either our lawyers or external providers.

We also offer specialised training on basic practice management issues such as time management, communication skills and dealing with the office environment. The firm actively encourages further study and provides financial support, as well as study leave for relevant post-graduate qualifications.

Each lawyer is encouraged to hold professional memberships and the firm pays for one such memberships per person.

We offer a well-rounded graduate program, which gives graduates the opportunity to work directly with partners and clients, as well as attend external meetings and court appearances.
