Meet Sarah Himmelhoch

Sarah joined Maddocks as a summer clerk in Sydney. Sarah then transitioned to working as a paralegal and is now a graduate lawyer at Maddocks.

How has your career developed in your time at Maddocks?

My career begun at Maddocks as a summer clerk in the Sydney Office, I then transitioned to working as a paralegal, and I am now a graduate lawyer.

From day one, Maddocks has provided me with the opportunity to work collaboratively with partners and senior lawyers and actively contribute to meaningful work for our clients. The mentorship I have received has set me up for success as it has enabled me to hone my legal skills, commercial nous, project management and my client communication skills. The Clerkship and Graduate Program has served an excellent foundation for me as I settle as a junior lawyer within the Public Law team.

How did the Clerkship and Graduate Program set you up for success?

The rotations I undertook during the Clerkship and Graduate Program exposed me to a variety of different areas of law. These rotations enabled me to explore my areas of interest, challenged me intellectually and helped me to build relationships with people throughout the firm. During the Graduate Program, I had the opportunity to undertake a secondment, which gave me insight into what working in-house is like and developed my understanding of the law in a business context, our client’s needs and how the firm meets these expectations.

The Clerkship and Graduate’s formal training program in conjunction with on-the-job training, mentorship and support from my colleagues has enabled me to grow professionally and personally. I am excited to see how my career will continue to progress with the support of my colleagues at Maddocks.

What's the best thing about working at Maddocks?

Maddocks is a great place to work with a supportive and unique culture. I am grateful to work within an environment where my contribution is recognised and appreciated and where I feel empowered to achieve growth.

Maddocks has a genuine commitment to making a difference, which has always been really important to me when choosing a workplace. During my time at Maddocks, I have enjoyed being involved in making a difference for our clients, each other and the broader community. In particular, I have relished in the opportunity to be involved in our pro bono programs such as the Homeless Pro Bono Legal Service and as an ally of Maddocks’ Cultural and Linguistically Diverse Committee (CALD network).

Further, Maddocks has a great reputation for working alongside a large range of private and public sector clients. The diverse, interesting and cutting edge work makes being a lawyer both fulfilling and challenging.
