Advising in Royal Commissions and inquiries
We have advised on many of the most significant Royal Commissions held in Australia
Maddocks has significant experience in advising clients involved in Royal Commissions and inquiries.
Recently, we advised the NSW Department of Family and Community Services in the Royal Commission into Institutionalised Responses to Sexual Abuse.
The Royal Commission investigated how institutions like schools, churches, sports clubs and government organisations responded to allegations and instances of child sexual abuse. It was established in 2013.
Maddocks provided high-level advice to the Department, which included analysing and producing close to 95,000 documents to the Royal Commission, assessing and analysing the evidence before the Royal Commission and undertaking internal reviews of key Departmental policy areas to test their merits and the possible need for reform, and preparing witnesses and their statements. Our advice included important strategic advice on how the Department should handle particular case studies.
Partner Mark Henry led the Maddocks team on this matter.
