Maddocks support for AFLW Cats players
Maddocks is today announcing its sponsorship of three players from the Geelong Cats AFLW team as part of the firm’s ongoing commitment to the Geelong region. Maddocks is a leading Australian law firm, and one of the largest in Melbourne, with over 135 years’ experience.
The new financial support for players Brooke Plummer, Ingrid Houtsma and Abbey McDonald started this season and will expand into 2023 to include corporate experience for all three players to support their professional careers beyond sport.
The sponsorship is strongly aligned to Maddocks’ values of diversity and inclusion and will look to support the players early in their sporting careers to help establish them as fully-professional athletes.
As the fastest growing region in Victoria and the largest regional centre outside of Melbourne, Maddocks is proud to service many clients active in Geelong.
An increase in people moving to Geelong has led to rising demand for new property development including residential building activity and new commercial projects. New jobs across government, health and education are also emerging along with new opportunities with the Commonwealth Games in 2026 and the National Disability Insurance Agency.
Maddocks Partner, and Geelong resident, Adam Jaques, said the region’s growth has seen key issues emerge as the city plans and prepares for the future: “As a proud resident of G-Town, I’m passionate about supporting the city and region’s expansion, along with the opportunities for our firm across a number of areas and sectors, in particular government, property development, health and education where we want to advise and support local business and clients.
“As part of this commitment, we are delighted to begin our player support for the AFLW Cats. As a life-long Cats fan, I am very excited that Maddocks is getting behind Brooke, Ingrid and Abbey and their future careers.”
Maddocks CEO David Newman added: “Maddocks has a long history being at the forefront of regional growth projects for Victoria. Our sponsorship of the AFLW players is another great example of the firm giving back to the Geelong community which has supported us for many years.”
Geelong Chief Operating Officer Simon Kelleher said: “We are delighted to have Maddocks Lawyers continue their support of our AFLW program through player sponsorship of Brooke Plummer, Ingrid Houtsma and Abbey McDonald.
“We look forward to the partnership continuing to prosper as we continue to develop and invest in our female athletes on and off the field.”
