Maddocks appoints four partners in latest round of promotions
On 1 July we welcomed four new appointments to the Maddocks partnership
Welcome to the first edition of our revamped alumni publication, Maddocks Alumni.
It has been too long since we last got in contact with you – 12 months, in fact. That year has been a challenging one for all of us as we have endured the continuing impact of Covid-19. As I write this there is hope that we are beginning to emerge from lockdowns and restrictions in New South Wales, Victoria and the Australian Capital Territory. Let’s hope we are able to transition safely to living with Covid-19 and get to meet each other in person once again.
Just before we published our previous edition of the alumni magazine we received the very sad news that one of the giants of our firm, Don Chisholm AM, passed away.
Don (or “DL” as he was affectionately known throughout the firm) devoted himself to the practice of the law. For more than 40 years he was a partner of the firm, practising in the areas of litigation, conveyancing, estate planning and probate. He then remained with the firm as a Consultant until his retirement in 2013, having been with the firm for 60 years. Don will be fondly remembered for his unswerving commitment to clients, his fearless advocacy for the firm and his emphasis on the practical and human aspects of legal practice.
Along with the Lonie family, the Chisholm family is central to the firm’s history – the firm was Maddock Lonie & Chisholm from the 1940s to 2004 when the name of the firm became Maddocks. Don’s father, Lyston Arthur Chisholm, joined the firm in 1940, and Don’s son John was a Managing Partner of the firm.
We extend our deepest sympathies to Lyn and his extended family.
It is important that we recognise those who have made a significant contribution to the firm. Our alumni community is an important part of our firm's past, our present and our future.
We are always keen to hear from our Alumni. Please get in touch with me with your feedback or ideas for what you want to hear about from Maddocks.
Take care
Julian Smith
