Maddocks appoints local government special counsel

Wednesday 31 October 2018

Law firm Maddocks has appointed Matthew Pearce as a special counsel in its Public Law team.

Matthew joined Maddocks last week and is based in the firm’s Sydney office. Before joining Maddocks, Matthew was general counsel at North Sydney Council and has been the legal counsel for New South Wales councils for the past 12 years.

Matthew brings strong experience in planning and environment law, including Land and Environment Court litigation and planning and environment protection and enforcement. He is also experienced in general commercial law, such as front-end construction work, property law and workplace relations law.

Maddocks partner and head of the firm’s NSW Local Government sector team, Michael Winram, said Matthew’s skills and experience would be a valuable addition to the team.

‘Our clients will benefit from Matthew’s experience in both private practice and in-house in local government and his deep understanding of the issues New South Wales councils are currently grappling with,’ Michael said.

‘Matthew will also add further depth to what is a market-leading public law practice team.’
