He regularly advises landowners and acquiring authorities on all aspects of compulsory acquisition, valuation and compensation law. Currently, Alessandro has carriage of one of the largest compulsory acquisition claims before the Land and Environment Court.

Alessandro has expertise in defending pollution prosecutions and advising clients on environmental offences, investigations and responses to statutory notices.

In addition, Alessandro is a leading adviser to Government on information disclosure and the liability of public authorities in responding to environmental risks such as flooding and erosion.

Experience

• Valuation and Compulsory Acquisition

  Advising acquiring authorities and landowners in all aspects of compulsory acquisition, valuation and compensation law. He advises on acquisitions for major infrastructure and urban renewal. Currently, Alessandro has carriage of one of the largest compulsory acquisition claims in NSW – which involves the acquisition of land for Parramatta Metro Station.

• Environmental Incidents, Investigations and Offences

  Alessandro specialises in crisis management and responses to major environmental and pollution incidents. He advises clients on licensing and enforcement issues including responses to statutory notices. He defends prosecutions and advises clients on investigations and regulatory actions commenced by the NSW Environment Protection Authority.

• Contamination and Remediation

  Advising on contaminated land management and remediation projects, including structuring, drafting and negotiating all necessary contracts, advice on regulatory and approvals issues and management of disputes. He also advises on waste services and disposal.

• Government Information Disclosure Obligations

  Alessandro is a leading adviser to Government on information disclosure. He has successfully defended privilege claims, including public interest immunity, and ran the leading case on ‘legitimate forensic purpose’ in the subpoena context. Further, he regularly advises Government clients on matters arising under the GIPA Act.

• Planning, Development and Sustainability

  Alessandro acts for private developers and councils in merit appeal proceedings. He advises clients on voluntary planning agreements, conditions of consent, land dedication and development contributions. Further, Alessandro advises public authorities on their obligations and liability in responding to environmental risks including flooding, erosion and sustainability.
