About James

James specialises in property law and advises private, institutional and foreign developers and builders on land and apartment projects. His deep understanding and experience in residential property development give him real insight into his client's needs.

James advises on selling and acquiring development sites, ownership structuring, master planned community structuring, property taxes, preparation of master contracts, owners corporation rules and structuring, management rights structuring, the establishment of display villages, developer/builder arrangements and managing volume conveyancing.

James is Vice Chair to the Property Council of Australia Build to Rent Committee (Victoria) 2023-2024.

Experience

  • Satterley Property Group

    Advising on True North, Habitat, Coburg Hill (the former Kodak site), Plenty River and Arcadia developments to provide a broad range of legal services on their entire Victorian portfolio, including establishment of master land and built form contracts of sale, sale of commercial sites, display village arrangements, joint ventures with builders and full conveyancing services. James and the team have worked with Satterley to successfully implement Maddocks eContracts across their projects, and also advised Satterley on its acquisition of the True North (from Peet), Upper Point Cook (from Crown), Arcadia (from Development Victoria) and Botanical (from MAB) sites.

  • Wolfdene

    Led multi-disciplinary team to seamlessly achieve financial close and settlements for the financing and acquisition of Wolfdene’s Brompton Lodge site, of over 90 hectares and valued at approximately $100 million, and continues to advise on the residential development which will consist of more than 1,500 lots. James has advised on several Wolfdene projects including Saratoga, Alarah and AVA and Saratoga Townhouses, and Phoenix at Alarah East.

  • Evolve Development

    Acting on its $50 million sale of Annadale to Japanese developers, NTT Urban Development Corporation and Sumitomo Forestry Co, in partnership with Moremac.

  • Mirvac

    Advising on the land and built form elements of Mirvac’s Tullamore project, located on the former Eastern Golf Course in Doncaster, including the apartment buildings Phoenix and Folia. James has also advised on Mirvac’s Enclave project.

  • Gurner

    Advising on several of GURNER TM projects in Melbourne, including the ultra-luxury residential development, Saint Mortiz in St Kilda. This has involved a high level of bespoke documentation to meet the requirements of individual purchasers, and complex owners corporation structuring to accommodate luxury shared onsite amenities, including a private club, a library, a Gold Class style cinema and a health club.
