About Melissa

Melissa has significant insolvency and restructuring experience within both the accounting profession and the legal profession. She has worked on a variety of both informal and formal insolvency appointments and demonstrated a strong knowledge of both the technical and commercial aspects associated with those roles. Melissa advises insolvency practitioners, creditors, corporations and government bodies on all areas of corporate reconstructions, insolvency and corporations law, including in relation to dealings with regulators such as ASIC and AFSA. Over the years Melissa has developed a keen interest in assisting clients with strategies to turnaround a company and the implementation of those strategies towards a successful and commercial outcome for stakeholders.

Experience

  • Directors duties & litigation

    Advising directors of public and private companies on statutory and common law duties. Acting on behalf of several directors in relation to compliance with Corporations Act 2001 and oppression claims.

  • Retail insolvent trading

    Advising the liquidator of a well-known music retailer in relation to a $15 million insolvent trading claim, including public examinations of its directors.

  • Building industry

    Acting for a large building company in relation to a claim of breach of director duties, misrepresentations and misconduct.

  • Managed Investment Schemes

    Advising on the liquidation of several significant agricultural managed investment schemes.

  • Victorian Registration and Qualifications Authority

    Advising the VRQA in insolvency issues in the education sector.
