Michael specialises in property finance, corporate finance and project finance and has extensive experience in negotiating loan and security agreements, documenting swap transactions, managing cross-border issues and overseas legal counsel and efficiently guiding clients through the conditions precedent process.
Michael has advised both financiers and borrowers on a wide range of bilateral and syndicated financing transactions. On the financier side, he has advised each of the big four Australian banks, many of the other Australian banks, international banks, property financiers and financial advisers and arrangers. On the borrower side, he has advised publicly listed companies, property developers, private equity funds, infrastructure sponsors and other companies in the health, resources and entertainment sectors to name a few.
Michael is fluent in Mandarin and is the current Chair of the APLMA Young Leaders Committee.
Advising the developer on a $40 million acquisition and construction financing in relation to its 200 lot development. The transaction was lightning fast with all finance documents reviewed, negotiated and finalised and financial close achieved within 6 days. Michael ran this transaction from Beijing directly after the Austrade Blockchain Mission to Shanghai;

Advising the developer on a $130 million construction financing in relation to its 240 apartment development. The financing involved three levels of financiers (senior, mezzanine and land funding) with three separate sets of finance documents.
Advising the developer on a $35 million construction refinancing in relation to its 580 residential lot development. This transaction involved negotiating with 4 different debt financiers and a number of overseas related party lenders culminating in a complex subordination agreement involving companies from China, the British Virgin Islands and Samoa.
