Almost 20 years ago, Maddocks recognised a need for debt recovery services by our local government clients and responded by establishing ML&C Collections.
With five Account Managers, three Clerks and the support of more than 500 partners and lawyers of Maddocks, ML&C offers a comprehensive recovery service with immediate access to more extensive legal expertise should it be required.
All of our team members understand the position of our council clients in collecting council rates debts – a position which varies considerably to general debt collection because the debtors are ratepayers and part of the council’s community. Our team members take the time to understand the demographics of our individual council clients, acting at all times in a manner that does not compromise council’s reputation.
Our goal is to manage all aspects of debt recovery, allowing our local government clients to maximise their resources and focus on their key responsibilities to the benefit of all stakeholders. We deliver tangible, valuable outcomes – in the 2015/2016 rate collection cycle we achieved an average collection rate of 97% for our clients.
How can we help?
ML&C has developed efficient and cost-effective methods to recover rates, charges and debts on behalf of our clients. Our recovery services focus on collection in the areas of:
- council rates
- general and sundry debts
- unpaid registrations for food and health
- failure to vote at council elections
- outstanding mechanical service bills
- special charges – street construction
- child and aged care
- council asset protection management
- council parking infringements
- animal infringements.
Our role includes providing strategic business and policy advice, administration and monitoring of instalment agreements, and instituting all recovery processes and associated legal proceedings. We also provide training on key legislative changes which affect our clients and their business.
“ML&C Collections has exceeded all the criteria we have established; providing a value for money service, strongly focused on recovering the debt, work closely with Council, adopting a professional approach to collection and achieving a high recovery rate.”
