Maddocks Sydney moves to 33 Alfred Street

• 27 January 2026 • 2 min read

Maddocks has opened the doors to its new Sydney offices at 33 Alfred Street, marking an exciting new chapter for the firm.

As Sydney’s first skyscraper, 33 Alfred is deeply embedded in the city’s architectural and cultural story and stands as a symbol of reinvention and innovation. Targeting a 5.5-star NABERS Energy rating and 6-star Green Office As Built v3 rating, 33 Alfred demonstrates how foundations steeped in history can be reimagined for a sustainable future.

Maddocks’ offices were designed by multi-award-winning Bates Smart, combining contemporary design and advanced technology, reflecting the firm’s vision to be the modern Australian law firm.

Maddocks CEO David Newman said the move represents far more than a change of address. “33 Alfred perfectly reflects who we are and where we are going as a firm. We were inspired by the building’s simultaneous connection to the past, present, and future. The building reflects Maddocks’ connection to place and the history that has shaped us, and our enduring position as the modern Australian law firm, one that is collaborative, solutions-focused, and invested in our clients and our people.”

“The move positions Maddocks for our next phase of growth at the epicentre of Sydney’s CBD, and together with the refurbishment of our Canberra office and planned expansion and refurbishment in Melbourne, continues our investment in building a sustainable, modern workplace at the forefront of modern legal practice.”

Sydney partner-in-charge Shaun Temby said the relocation marked an exciting step for the Sydney office. “We’re proud to be custodians of a space that sits at the heart of the city’s story. We look forward to welcoming clients and colleagues into a workplace designed to inspire, support wellbeing, and enhance the way we come together for each other.”
