About Katie

Having previously worked in commercial litigation, Katie has extensive employment law experience, working with a variety of clients in both the public and private sectors, as well as in-house. Katie has advised clients on a wide range of employment and industrial relations related issues including contract negotiations and drafting, the application and interpretation of various industrial instruments, performance management and management of injured workers; restructures and redundancies, discrimination complaints, investigations, disciplinary matters and termination of employment.

Katie also has extensive litigation experience, appearing in and briefing counsel for matters in the Industrial Relations Commission of NSW, Fair Work Commission as well as the Local, District, Federal and Supreme Courts.

Experience

  • Fair Work Commission

    Acting for a variety of employers in defending general protections and unfair dismissal claims made under the Fair Work Act 2009 (Cth). As part of this work, Katie regularly advises clients on prospects, strategy and responses to claims. Katie also regularly appears for clients in conciliations and hearings, including by preparing relevant evidence for hearing.

  • NSW Government

    Advising on and appear on behalf of NSW public sector clients in the NSW Industrial Relations Commission in a variety of litigious matters. Katie is engaged to advise on prospects, strategy, the preparation of evidence and submissions as well as appearing in conciliations and hearings generally.

  • Injunctive proceedings

    Assisting with urgent interlocutory injunctions (including the execution of an anton piller order) associated with enforcement of post-employment obligations and confidential information.

  • Investigation work

    Conducting workplace investigations into claims of bullying and harassment, including by scoping investigation parameters, undertaking witness interviews, preparing investigation reports and providing recommendations on resolution of complaints.

  • Training

    Training HR personnel on performance management techniques, including the development of appropriate performance improvement programs. In addition, Katie presents at various employment seminars on a variety of employment law topics including management of ill and injured workers, bullying, discrimination and harassment and disciplinary processes.
