2021 In Review: Australian Competition & Consumer Commission

We are pleased to present our annual Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) Year in Review publication. In this report, we look at the ACCC’s leading cases and other policy and regulatory activities throughout the year and then evaluate how well the ACCC performed against its 2021 enforcement and other ongoing priorities.
We also consider and outline developments we are expecting to see across key sectors in 2022 and the implications of these developments on businesses.
We have continued to examine the ACCC’s regulatory, administrative and policy activities beyond pure litigation, looking at the areas of:
- energy
- healthcare
- retail and franchising
- technology, digital platforms and telecommunications.
We also cover in detail, enforcement activity and developments in the following areas:
- cartel conduct
- other conduct affecting competition (misuse of market power)
- merger clearances
- consumer protection
- scams
- unfair contract terms
- product safety
- COVID-19.
