Big Name, Big Move: EY Corporate Law Partner joins Maddocks as Partner in Corporate Practice

Maddocks is thrilled to announce the appointment of Alex Worner as a Partner in the Corporate practice in our Sydney office – a major hire that underscores the firm’s growing national and international reputation in high-value and complex transactions.
Alex joins Maddocks from EY, where he spent nearly a decade at the forefront of significant mergers and acquisitions and private equity deals. His decision to join Maddocks is a strong endorsement of the firm’s trajectory, reflecting the scale, complexity and cross-border nature of the deals now being entrusted to Maddocks’s corporate team.
A seasoned international lawyer, Alex brings deep expertise in corporate and financial services law, with specialisations in M&A, private equity, corporate finance, corporate reorganisations, and fund establishment. His practice spans a broad range of sectors including mining, real estate, funds management, renewables, financial services, manufacturing, agribusiness, and technology.
Maddocks CEO David Newman said:
“We’re proud to welcome Alex to the partnership. He is a high-calibre operator with an exceptional track record in deal execution and client service. His move to Maddocks speaks volumes about the calibre of our team and the strength of our client base – especially in corporate and private equity transactions. We’re excited about what this means for the continued evolution of our Commercial Practice.”
Andrew McNee, Head of Maddocks’s Private Equity practice, added:
“Alex will be instrumental in scaling our M&A and private equity capabilities, particularly for complex cross-border and high-stakes deals. His global experience will be a powerful asset for our clients and our team alike.”
Alex Worner commented on his move:
“I’m excited to be joining Maddocks – a firm with a sharp commercial focus and an enviable client base across the Australian and international markets. The firm’s momentum, ambition and client-centric culture make this an ideal platform to continue building my M&A and private equity practice.”
Alex will be joined at Maddocks by his team, including Senior Associate Ksenia Malkina, and Lawyers, Jesse Mullins and Conner Simes.
