Maddocks at the Society of University Lawyers Conference 2026
SOUL conference “Sunshine for the SOUL” – Brisbane – hosted by QUT 29-30 October

Maddocks is pleased to be attending the Society of University Lawyers (SOUL) Conference in Brisbane on 29–30 October 2026, hosted by Queensland University of Technology (QUT).
SOUL brings together legal practitioners working within universities, providing an opportunity to exchange knowledge and perspectives on legal issues affecting the higher education sector. This follows Maddocks' involvement in the 2025 SOUL Conference, where the firm was a bronze sponsor and members of our Education sector team attended and presented.
Contract termination in higher education: From First Principles to Complex Projects
Special Counsel, Georgia Hunt will present Contract Termination in Higher Education: From First Principles to Complex Projects.
Terminating a contract can be a complex and high-risk process, particularly in the higher education sector where contractual arrangements can be difficult to unpick.
Georgia's session will revisit the fundamental principles governing parties' rights to terminate contracts and examine the risks associated with taking such steps. It will also explore key contractual mechanisms that can help manage termination risk and support clients in achieving the best possible outcome.
Drawing on challenges particular to the higher education sector, the session will consider:
- fundamental concepts and case law relating to contractual termination
- the risks associated with exercising termination rights
- contractual mechanisms that can help manage those risks
- the particular challenges presented by complex contracting arrangements in higher education.
A strong contingent from Maddocks will be attending the conference.
