Maddocks acts for National Pies on historic sale

Maddocks has acted for the owners of National Pies Pty Ltd on the sale of the Tasmanian Bakeries business to the Patties Foods Pty Ltd, owner of retail brand Four’N Twenty.
National Pies, and its iconic brand Tasmanian Bakeries, were established by Alfred Gough in 1942 and had been owned by the Gough family for 82 years. The transaction followed a competitive process that required ACCC approval. The sale completed at the end of last year.
The Maddocks team was led by Commercial partner Ron Smooker and included Special Counsel Jacqui Picone and Associate Oliver Wahlstrom.
Commenting on the transaction and Maddocks’ role, Jacqui Picone said: “It was a privilege to be involved in the sale of a business which obviously meant so much to the Gough family, the employees and the people of Tasmania.
“The fact that Tasmanian Bakeries held such significance for so many also presented some challenges, not least the need to be sensitive and respectful in our dealings with people during an intensely emotional time. Our empathetic approach is one of Maddocks’ strengths which we have developed through a long history of acting for founders.”
