Maddocks advises on Universal Learning Group sale
Maddocks has advised the founder of the Universal Learning Group on the sale of the Universal Higher Education (UHE) and Universal English (UE) in Australia to the UK-headquartered Oxford International Education Group (OIEG).
Universal Higher Education provides undergraduate and postgraduate programs in areas responding to global shortages in labour skills, particularly in information technology. Universal English offers a range of English language courses, including general English and EAP.
The transaction speaks to Maddocks’ reputation as an exceptional corporate M&A offering for founder exits.
The Maddocks team advising on the sale was led by Commercial Special Counsel Steven Tang with assistance from Lawyer, Nick Worth, and Development Partner Bettina Sheeran advising on all leasing aspects of the transaction. Commercial Partner Andrew Wright advised on taxation aspects of the transaction.
OIEG was advised by Corrs Chambers Westgarth and BDO.
“We are delighted to have assisted the founder of Universal Learning with this significant transaction and achieving an exit from the business which he had successfully built up over the last 17 years,” said Special Counsel Steven Tang.
“We are also excited to watch the further growth and development of UHE and UE and its people as part of the broader Oxford International Education Group.”
