Our Community is a world-leading social enterprise that provides advice, tools and training for Australia's 600,000 community groups and schools.

Maddocks has partnered with Our Community since 1 February 2021, with our Melbourne Employment, Commercial and Property teams providing Our Community with legal assistance to support it with its work to build stronger communities through stronger community organisations.

Some of the pro bono work we have done for Our Community includes:

  • Articles and publications: Maddocks has shared its knowledge regarding developments in the law that might affect Our Community and/or its NFP network. For example, we provided Our Community with Maddocks’ e-alerts on Gender Affirmation Policies and Leave: Best Practice Considerations for Employers and Director Identification Number - Reminder to Apply by 30 November 2022. Maddocks has also contributed to Our Community’s newsletter which is distributed to Our Community’s NFP network. For example, Catherine Dunlop and Lindy Richardson provided their thoughts on 2023 (legal) trends for NFPs, and Jessica Cirnigliaro provided her reflection on Jamila Rizvi’s International Women’s Day talk at Maddocks.
  • Webinars: Maddocks has partnered with Our Community to provide training on a number of important legal topics to Our Community’s NFP network, including ‘Ask Me Anything about HR Law
"Our Community is proud to have Maddocks as our preferred legal supplier and partner with the Australian community sector. Through the work we do together, Maddocks ensures that the Australian community sector receive the expert advice that in many cases they would be unable to pay for.

Policy templates on the Our Community site supported by Maddocks, are downloaded and edited by thousands of community organisations each year. This means that for-purpose organisations can continue the work they do for Australian communities, while knowing the policies they have in place are of the highest quality, and legally sound."

At Maddocks, our purpose includes making a difference for our community. One of the ways we do this is by providing free legal services to enable access to justice and to promote the public interest.
