Maddocks’ Sonia Sharma named Partner of the Year at the 2022 Women in Law Awards

Maddocks Partner Sonia Sharma has been recognised at this year’s Lawyers Weekly Women in Law Awards, winning both Partner of the Year (Big Law) and the Women in Excellence Award.

Public Law Senior Associate Georgia Appleby was also named Senior Associate of the Year at the awards ceremony in Melbourne.

Sonia Sharma, who specialises in technology, cyber security and privacy and is also the National Chair of the Maddocks Cultural and Linguistically Diverse Network, said: “I am so proud to be part of Maddocks, the modern Australian law firm, which has supported me to be my best self for over 14 years. As a single mum and woman of colour, I hope to inspire others to aim high.

“I am deeply committed to making a real difference to my firm, my clients and the wider community when it comes to diversity and inclusion and empowering the next generation of lawyers to innovate and make an impact. I am very grateful to my incredible TMT team and our clients.”

The national awards are now in their 11th year and recognise the top female professionals across Australia’s legal profession in various categories. Maddocks had six finalists for this year’s awards, including partner of the year, senior associate of the year, dealmaker of the year, rising star of the year, as well as pro bono and HR Professional of the Year.
