Maddocks has appointed Daniel Houghton as Special Counsel in the firm's Restructuring & Insolvency team in Sydney.

Daniel’s arrival to Maddocks deepens the firm's market-leading capability in restructuring, insolvency and special situations.

Daniel advises banks, non-bank lenders, insolvency practitioners, turnaround professionals and corporates on complex restructuring, insolvency and special situations matters. His extensive experience includes acting in voluntary administrations, receiverships, liquidations, debt restructures and distressed transactions.

Over the course of his career, Daniel has worked on a number of high-profile Australian insolvencies and restructures, acting for major financial institutions and leading insolvency firms across a broad range of industries, including construction, retail, mining, agriculture, education, technology and financial services. He has advised major domestic and international banks, non-bank lenders and each of the major consulting firms on complex and often high-profile matters.

Daniel joins Maddocks from Corrs Chambers Westgarth, where he was most recently Special Counsel in the firm's Restructuring, Insolvency and Special Situations practice.

Commenting on the appointment, Sydney Restructuring & Insolvency Partner, Danielle Funston, said:

"Daniel is a highly respected practitioner with deep experience advising lenders, insolvency practitioners and corporates through complex and challenging circumstances. His strong technical expertise, commercial approach and experience across many of Australia's most significant restructures and insolvencies will be of tremendous value to our clients."

Daniel also brings valuable in-house experience, having completed secondments within the restructuring and workout teams of two of Australia's largest domestic banks. This experience provides him with a practical understanding of lender priorities and the commercial realities facing clients navigating financial distress and business transformation.

Commenting on his appointment, Daniel said:

"I'm excited to join Maddocks and contribute to the continued growth of the firm's Restructuring & Insolvency practice. Maddocks has a strong reputation for delivering strategic, commercially focused advice, and I look forward to working with colleagues across the firm to support clients on complex restructuring and special situations matters."

Daniel's appointment reflects Maddocks' continued investment in growing its national Restructuring & Insolvency practice and deepening its capability to support lenders, insolvency practitioners, businesses and investors facing increasingly complex restructuring and turnaround challenges.
