About Maia

Maia has extensive experience advising on insolvency administrations and restructurings both in Australia and internationally, having practised in Australia and the UK.

She advises insolvency practitioners, accountants, major financial institutions, companies, directors and creditors on all aspects of insolvency related matters. Maia also has significant experience in running large-scale court proceedings, and has experience in regulatory matters and investigations, including in the financial services sector, dealing with regulatory bodies such as ASIC, and acting on Royal Commissions. Areas she has advised within include the retail, construction, agribusiness, managed investment scheme, and telecommunications sectors. Her commercial and personable approach assists her clients to resolve matters quickly and cost-effectively.

Experience

  • Restructuring & Insolvency
    • Acting for Watpac entities in relation to claims brought by the Liquidators of Hastie Group entities against 30 principal contractors. The case involved complex insolvency and construction issues related to set-off and the interaction of the Corporations Act 2001 (Cth) provisions and the Personal Property Securities Act 2009 (Cth).
    • Advising receivers of a number of failed debenture lending companies such as South Eastern Secured Investments.
    • Advising receivers and banking syndicates on major collapses including Great Southern, Timbercorp and Gunns.
