About Duncan

Duncan is the Practice Team Leader for the Maddocks Corporate & Commercial team in New South Wales.

Duncan has extensive experience advising a range of privately held corporates, publicly listed companies, and private equity houses, in M&A transactions, capital raising, general commercial work, and compliance.

He advises predominantly Australian based clients, but has a number of US and UK based clients doing business in Australia. Recent transactions have been in manufacturing, health, financial services and retail.

Duncan is listed as a leading lawyer by legal directories and publications, including Chambers and Partners and The Legal 500 Asia Pacific (2023), for his work in Private Equity and Corporate M&A.

Experience

  • The Growth Fund

    Advising The Growth Fund (previously Archer Growth) on a number of acquisitions, including a majority stake in the Team Moto dealership business, Laser Clinics Australia, Fuelfix (the leading provider of specialised fuel storage equipment and services in Australia) and Homyped (a leading designer and wholesaler of comfort footwear in Australia). He has also advised portfolio businesses on bolt-on acquisitions and has advised The Growth Fund on various divestments.

  • Deluxe Group

    Advising the Deluxe Group on its acquisitions of various businesses in Australia since 2000, and the development of the MediaCloud venture supporting SBS.

  • Greencross / Petbarn

    Acting for Greencross (and Petbarn) since 2002 on their Australia-wide roll-up of pet stores and veterinary clinics.

  • Advanced Cosmeceuticals

    Acting for the founders of Advanced Cosmeceuticals, an international cosmeceutical distribution business, on a sale of a majority stake to Gresham Private Equity in 2021.

  • Accor Hotels

    Advising on the naming rights agreement for ‘Accor Stadium’ and Accor’s acquisition of Tribe (Australia’s first integrated modular hotel brand), as well as other commercial contracting matters.

  • Inysnc Technology / Adopt & Embrace

    Acting for owners of Microsoft re-sellers Inysnc Technology and Adopt & Embrace on separate sale processes to Dutch private equity owned Rapid Circle in 2020 and 2021
